Default MS have heads in arse sometimes me thinks

Ok, just got an Xbox 350 wireless receiver so I could use my wireless
Xbox 360 controllers with a pc.

Try to use disk that came with device. readme states Windows XP or later
and I'n running Win7 32 bit on pc being used.

Windows will not run the Setup program complaining of incompatibility
problems. Running same program under Compatibility for XP SP3 and get
same dialog. No option but to close dialog and temrminate process.

Try device manager and update by pointing at the inf file. Nope Windows
tells me item won't install using that method.

So off to MS's site and download their Xbox360 package. It install fine.
I then plug in the device. No driver and can't find one online!!! I
believe Win10 has no issues though (as an aside).

So I try to manually install drive which means Browse Drivers and pick
from list. So I pick Windows Common Controller for Window Class which
gives me four items two of which appears to be just different version,
e.g. Xbox 360 Controller for Windows Version: 2.1.0.1349 and same text
but diff version for 2nd item.

There's also a "charging cable" option and a Wireless Receiver option.

I choose the Wireless Receiver and install gives me a warning but I let
it do it's thing. Unknown Device gone when I back out but still device
appears to not work except little led is on. I detect nada.

I went back and changed driver to The "Controller" driver which also
installed no problem but not different in final outcome.

I downloaded MS's own package designed for Win7 so why doesn't it
install properly so it becomes just plug-n-play like alsmot everything
else, e.g. plug in device and it just works?

It seems they do this for a lot of peripheral things. I've a webcam rhat
Win7 32 bit gets a driver no problem for it, 64 bit gets nada. What new
version will screw up my tv tuner and make it worhtless? I've an ancient
mouse (serial port) that still works, try to get that going on any newer
system. Little thought and I could easily come up with more of this bs.

!!! I HATE IT !!!
