Many of those machines with only one PS/2 port, can handle a mouse
and a keyboard used in the same port. I would test to make sure that
having one or the other works fine first. And if that passes, I
would buy one of those PS/2 Y cables. And then you should be good to
go.
Well, my motherboard shows a keyboard logo on that PS/2 port. Are you
saying connecting a PS/2 splitter for a mouse and keyboard would work
and fix the mouse pauses?
I am saying sometimes the single PS/2 could handle both. And I would try
a PS/2 mouse in the port to see if that works. If it does, I would buy a
Y cable. As I believe there is a good chance that it would work. And
yes, I would think it would solve your problem too.
I tried hooking both mouse and keyboard to a PS/2+USB adapter splitter
(purple and green). It was working for about 30 minutes and then both
devices started pausing (not just the mouse like earlier). When I type
on my PS/2 keyboard and pauses occur, it either doesn't register my keys
or gets stuccccccccccccccck like that.
