Simply install another AV program. That will disable (not remove)
Defender.

No, it doesn't work that way. I downloaded Malwarebytes and it did not
disable Windows Defender.

Malwarebytes disables Windows Defender on first instal.
MWB installs the full version as a trial then reverts to an on demand
scanner.
I had to manually re-enable Windows Defender after the trial ended.
