Default Desktop Search Problem

"clayto" wrote:

Using Outlook Express some unwanted and unpleasant files from a NewsGroup to
which I did not subscribe got 'saved' automatically on my WXP2 Home laptop.
I found and removed them (erased) but now Windows Desktop Search keeps
finding them, with a path to the non-existing file and headings for their
content. They cannot be opened or deleted (as they are not there!) but are
listed. I cannot find them with Search or Run. I have tried 3 Registry
Cleaners, but still WDS finds the offending material. How can I fully clean
up so that WDS no longer shows these non-existent folders / files?

Hi,
Right click Start Button and select Properties from the List, on the Taskbar
and StartUp menu click on Start Menu Tab then click Customize.. button.
On Customize Start menu under General Tab click on Clear List opposite this:
Number of programs on Start menu: [4]x][v] [ Clear List]
Then click on Advanced Tab and click on Clear List opposite this:
[ ] List my most recently opened documents [ Clear List ]

Click [ Apply ] Then [OK]

Run Disk CleanUp and Defrag in Safe Mode.
HTH.
