Default Firefox - How to add exceptions to cookie purging on exit?

Seems I either have to allow retaining of all cookies or purge them all.
I have experimented with the cookies settings, and the only way to get
cookies retained at a couple sites is to allow retaining all cookies.

I've been doing that (purge cookies on exit, with exceptions) for as
long as Firefox has allowed it. To set an exception:

Go to Preferences, "Privacy & Security" tab, look for "Cookies and Site
Data" and click the "Manage Permissions" button.

OR

Go to the page you want to make an exception for, select "View Page
Info" from the right-click menu, "Permissions" tab. Fine the "Set
Cookies" item.
