Default WinXP's Power Management Issue

SNIP

Ben

Hi Ben,
I downloaded (via above link) the Power Management for IBM PC Win2000/XP
and installed it. Clicking on the Power Management icon via IBM
Configuration, the screen looked exactly like WinXP's PM with the exact same
settings for "Plugged In". Unfortunately, far beyond 20 minutes
(setting), the hard disk (no activity) is still spinning.
Note: I forgot to mention that I use an AC Adapter with my Thinkpad all
the time.
Thanks for your effort, John

Another possibility is that something in the background is accessing the hard drive
and interrupting the spin down. You might also check Device Manager for conflicts
and errors that might cause this kind of problem. Also, restart the computer and go
into the BIOS setup and see if there any applicable settings that might need to be changed.
Be sure to save any changes when exiting.

Ben

Hi Ben,

I forgot to mention that I had already tried the BIOS settings, which I
set for the hard drive to stop after 20 minutes if idle. That didn't
work.

Rebooting into Win98 or real Dos mode (Windows not launched) is the only
solution I have found so far.

With WinXP launched (no AV aps) and nothing in MSCONFIG Startups,
and nothing running in the background except system related (Task Manager
list), the HD never stops spinning.

John
