I haven't looked in a while and I'm not near a win10 machine, but you
used to be able to open the sound mixer and find sliders for all kinds
of items, like system sounds (errors), thunderbird, firefox, vlc etc.
Some of them only show if running but...

You could then individually set each for it's own level, making
notifications or system sounds lower than other items. You'd have to play.

Of course this is an IIRC.


Not really easy when the sound only runs for a second.
