For what it's worth, I always remove all URLs
in about:config. Safe browsing updates is one
of those.

I'm using FF52 with a custom homepage. I'm
not aware of it calling home to anything. But
again, it might help to remove URLs in prefs.

Why don't you have doubleclick in your HOSTS file?
