VLC is a bloated piece of crap. Windows Media Player cant play MP4
files.

Download the FREE program called "Media Player Classic". MPC is
awesome. It works flawlessly on my old XP laptop which has a processor
about the same speed as yours. It also works perfectly on my much older
desktop computer (made in 2000), running Windows 98.

You may need to install some additional codecs, otherwise it works
immediately. You can even install it to a flashdrive for portable use.

The file you download will be named something like this:
MPC-HC.1.7.5.x86.exe

(There is probably a newer version, I have not checked in awhile, since
this one works fine).

I dont know if this works on Windows 7, 8 or 10, since I dont have them.
But it works great on XP and Win98. I have used it for many years...
