Thanks. Before trying all the fixes, I did a 2 week-old system
restore and this fixed it. I'll have to reinstall some small
programs and I'll watch them carefully.

changes to a PC.

Do you mean System Restore?


Yes, of course. System Restore is a case where the cure is worse than the
disease. It's one of the very first things I disable on each new PC, along
with UAC and a few other things.
