Default Battery draining power in few seconds

I thought that, maybe if I ran Linux portable I will find battery still
works a little bit. The question would be how to get around this issue. It's
not very dramatic because I use wall plug but can't move the laptop.

Hello crowd, I've this recent problem with my laptop's battery which is if
I turn on the power in battery mode, the system boots up and immediately
hibernates because battery only holds power for a few seconds. I think
this system update issue because battery is old but it used to last about
half hour. The icon on tray is looking different too (That's why I suspect
this is an updating issue). Do you know a way to solve this besides buying
a new laptop or doing a fresh installation of system?

Thanks.

Boot an alternative OS and see if the battery subsystem
responds in a similar way ?
