Default Sata as IDE on XP drive vs Sata as AHCI on Win 7

Yes, I will be running 2 drives - on a Win XP and the new one Win 7 AHCI.

And thanks for a great reply Peter.

You make it seem like you have more than one drive and wish to
install W7 on a drive other than XP is installed on..?????????/

If you only have one drive and are replacing XP with W7 it is
best to use AHCI...its a little quicker... and you need to change it
before you install W7 so the proper drivers can be installed.

IF you have 2 drives change the one W7 will be installed on to AHCI
W7 will overwrite the bootsector of the XP drive and setup the dual boot
menu which you will get when you boot up to make a choice of whether
to start with XP or W7.
If none of this fits what your trying to do please be more specific
when you post back.

I am running a SATA drive enabled in the bios as IDE on my Win XP hard
drive.
.
If I change BIOS to AHCI when I install Win 7 on my new HD, will I have
to go into the BIOS
and change back and forth depending on what drive I want to use?

Sorry but can not find a Win 7 newsgroup yet.
