Default Folder Attributes

No that is not it, must be some obscure setting squirrelled away somewhere.
I have no problem uodating the breifcase when I change files on the desk top
but if I change tem on the laptop and try and sync back to the desktop I get
the read-only error.

Probably at a higher level than My Documents

If Read Only is set at root (C:\) folder level, and under advanced is set

to
propagate to all sub-folders and files, then that will override

BUT

This set-up is not default. Who changed it? There night be a reason for
it, but I can't think what.

Good Luck

The read-only property for folders in Windows explorer isn't accurate.

Is
the read-only box really checked or is in mixed state where it isn't
either checked or unchecked, just has a small square in the box?

If you really want to see if the read-only attribute is set on a folder
you'll need to do that from the command prompt. Open a command prompt
window and navigate to your profile directory. Generally this will be
C:\Documents and Settings\[user]. There you can type the following
command to see what attributes are set:

attrib "my documents"

If there is an R out to the left before the folder name in the output of
the above command, then the read-only attribute is set, otherwise it is
not set. You can also remove the read-only attribute from the

attrib -r "my documents"

I cannot seam to remove the "read-only" attribute of folders. I need

all
my
folders and files located in "My Documetns" not to be "read-only" so I
can
syc with a laptop thru briedfcase.

I have selected all the folders and files in "My Documents" and then
selected properties and unclicked the "read-only" tick box. However
everytime I do this the folders revert back to "Read-Only". I am

logged
in
as administrator so I am stumped to what is causing this.

Any help appreciated.
