I tend to agree about the advice, although - depending on their
technical competence - I'm sure some would find it an interesting and
even rewarding experience compared with Windows.

For many years now I have been happily using Linux (currently the Mageia
version), having easily installed it on a dual-boot basis on all our home
computers so as to offer a choice of system, and am always glad to exit
an occasional session on Windows (now 10) and get back to Linux.

I tried linux, ... requires far too much tweaking, fiddling, and very
annoying bug removal. Its designed for the nerd who wants to waste their
life fighting with their computer, rather than using it. Linux is crap!

I have similar feelings about Windows (expecially after WinXP)...
