Someone planning to travel to a country that does not use English told
me that he was worried an app would not work there.

a) I figure the language can be set in the settings (set, settings, get
it?)

b) I told him the worst that could happen if it didn't work because it
was dl'd in the US is that he'd have to uninstall it and reinstall it
when he got there.

Sounded perfect to me but then it occurred to me that in Windows,
uninstalling a program does not normally delete the data that went with
it, inclding the ini file or afaik wherever the settings are kept.

So does Android work like Windows or the opposite, or differently?

TIA

Wrong group. Sorry. I was asking about Android.

Answers are still welcome. ;-)

Again, look in the unidentified Android app to see if it has language
settings. If not, change the regional settings in Android (settings -
languages - choose one) to use the other language and see if the app
supports the language change. If the other language is not listed, you
may have to elect to add/install it. I don't know how many languages
are supported in Android. When I went into language settings, there
were only about 15 entries (and some in fonts for languages that I don't
know how to read).

It's amazing, isn't it? Growing up I knew about Chinese and Japanese,
but lately I've seen Cambodian, Thai, VietNamese and some from places I
don't even know where they are.

Change the OS' language to see if the app follows.

Earlier I had installed but not signed up because I didn't have a phone
number for the other country, and it wouldn't let me go farther than
that. Just now I put in my USA phone number, it sent me a code, so I
could look in settings. It turns out it has separate settings for
country and language, so in this case there is nothing for that person
to worry about. Thanks for the encouragement.

But I still wonder if settings or other data are left behind when one
uninstalls. I need to know this before my spy mission in Iran. And
there are other times when it's good to know.

For example, if I uninstall K-9, will all my email disappear too, or
will it be there when I reinstall K-9. Apparently that doesn't happen
with windows email programs, although I'm still always scared that it
will (so I almost never uninstall anyhthing, even in Windows.)
