within the NHS N3 private network in the UK.
What I'm looking for is other areas within XP that might affect access
e.g.
I checked the hosts file on a PC that was working OK & compared with a
non-working one was missing an entry for the local machine ie 127.0.0.1
localhost. But updating that on the non working one had no effect.
I've scanned for malware etc & root kits just in case, but all is clean.
I think in the end this will be something small & buried away somewhere &
I'll be gob-smacked when I find out what is.

not DNS. Has to be something local to the PC because the same user
profile
on a different machine has no problems.
