How did you know the sound is an indication that the CPU is active?

It is undoubtedly a setting in your BIOS setup. Ususally you would get some
text message on the screen during a cold start, like 'press del key to enter
setup'

At some stage on my travels through my computer I have ticked a box that
enables audio from the CPU; I now get a clicking noise that tells me the
processor is active, it is extremely annoying and I would like to make it
silent again can anybody help?
