2) In trying to get rid of the password login nonsense, I was told
diretions: DesktopComputer(right click)manage

I get that, but I find no "Computer" choice on the desktop.
( and if I have somehow lost it, how do I recover it?)

Fyi...I replied in that other thread and indicated that those directions
were not necessarily accurate since Windows 8 approach to managing user
accounts is different than prior o/s.

As with any newsgroup folks are here to help and all should be commended for
doing so but its also important and incumbent upon all of us to recognize
that not every reply may be as accurate as others. If something doesn't
work as given, just ask again...and don't worry about questions being a
nuisance.

Also, and no insult intended, if you plan on upgrading to Win8.1, you're
going to need to use a Microsoft Account (email address as username and
password )to sign in to the Microsoft Store to obtain the 8.1 update.
- while it might be beneficial to bypass a Windows logon username/pw signon
it might be prudent to get used to using a Microsoft Account to sign on to
Windows 8 since MSFT's approach to deploying content (and possibly Windows
Updates in the future) may become more restrictive for validation and
security purposes.

Finally, if you still wish to bypass the Windows logon password prompt see
