Default Not able to log in to Windows XP

I’ve been using the same password while login in to my Windows
for several years now. Never had any problems , even after not
using my computer for a long time. I was away from home for 2
months and after coming back I am not being able to log in, after
typing my password, the information pops up – ‘The username or
password are not correct’. No one had an access to my computer
so the password wasn’t changed. I have no idea how it happened
and how to resolve this issue. I am not able to log in as an
administrator or any other user of this computer. Someone
recommended using ‘ophcrack’ and other login recovery
programs, we tried to do it from the other computer and after
downloading those programs we weren’t able to proceed either.
I am not sure what happened ( is it possible for password to
expire? Or change itself??)Is there any way to retrieve my
password?? Thank you so much for any tips on this matter.
Maggie

I assume you've checked obvious things like the cap lock key being
pressed... You might also want to try another keyboard in case one of
your password-required keys went bad... Otherwise...

Try doing a System Restore to a prior date. If you can boot to Safe
Mode, then try this:
"How to start the System Restore tool by using the safe mode option
with the Command prompt in Windows XP"

Otherwise, you may have to resort to the Recovery Console:
"How to recover from a corrupted registry that prevents Windows XP from
starting"
