Default Alternatives To Desktop Restore 6.x ?

Desktop Restore was working for me under XP but now, under Windows 7
with two monitors it can't seem to get the restores right: icons
missing, icons relocated all over the place, and so-forth.

Has anybody found something that works for them with two monitors ?

According to http://www.midiox.com/, Windows 7 is listed as supported.
Are you using the latest version (1.6.4.036)?

At Softpedia.com, a reviewer noted "If an Icon has the same name as the
beginning of ANOTHER icon name (i.e. "ABCD" vs "ABCD FILE") the program
sometimes misplaces one with another and randomly places the other. I
dont think the authors know about this."

The only one that I constantly remember is Stardock's Fences
(http://www.stardock.com/products/fences/). Never used a desktop layout
manager but others have noted it is very good. Some more info at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fences_%28software%29. It is not free but
then you did not mention any pricing criteria. Cost is $10. You can
get a trial version to check if it works how you want.

See: http://www.stardock.com/products/fences/

For multiple monitors, I've read that you need to enable the "Store
fence sizes and positions on a per-screen-resolultion basis" setting.
