It is mostly software problems caused by turning it off from the strip
but I have been doing it with my MP3 players for almost 20 years.
Since they are basically read only machines the problems are minimal.
If you were updating a data base or something you could end up with
corrupted files. I suppose there might be a problem with the
housekeeping in the OS but I haven't seen it yet.

BTW how do you stop the black nag screen on W/7 that says you did not
shut down properly?
