On this XP box, when doing data-entry, I really need the
system sounds to notify me when I make a mistake that would
normally cause a sound to notify me.

I also like to play music very softly when I'm doing
data-entry, but if I turn the sound volume down to make the
music soft, I can't hear the Windows sounds that tell me
I've made a mistake in data-entry.

Is there any way to be able to adjust the music sound volume
independently of the system sounds?

Here's something you might try.. double-click the volume control in the
Tray area, and lower the midi and CD player volumes. Increase the Wave
volume.

Thanks for the reply, but no cigar. It seems that the Wave
volume control handles both music and system sounds. But
Pip's idea does indeed work.

Note - the system sounds are also wav files, you can use your own instead.
