I scrolled farther down and found WPS/AOSS. I used
that and after a minute, it said it was connected.

The status key says it's Connected, signal is strong, infrastructure
mode.

All sounds good, can the printer output a status page showing you its IP
address?

It did print out a page, but only with network name (SSID), MAC, comm.
mode, authentication type, encryption, and network channel.

No IP.

But the printer doesn't show on the PC in the list of Devices and
Printers, and it's not offered as a printer choice when I want to print
something.

Have you added the printer as a device?

I figured out that what confused me was that last time, for the desktop
computer, connecting the printer to the network was the last step and I
was done. So I did that and I thought I was done. Forgot to put the
software on the newly used (laptop) computer.

Two major steps and they can be done in either order.

I'm a bit rusty on Win7 printers, so start with the MS page ...
