Default Puzzled old man looking for answer

I am 76 and not very computer savy. I get by but when something changes I
have a hard time figuring out why.

From time to time I use the Ctrl+Alt+Del to look at the Windows task
Manager to se if a program is responding or not. Most of the time it's just
my old pc being slow.

When I opened the Task manager a box would open with the title at the top
"Windows Task Manager". There were three tabs. One shows what applications
are running, another shows a running graph of the CPU usage and I forget
what the third one showed.

A few days ago that changed. Now I get the box but it is untitled and has
no X to close it. There is now only the one box showing the applications in
use. In order to shut the box I have to click on the icon in the task bar
and then click "close" in the menu.

Any ideas as to what is going on and how I can get the old manager back?

TIA
