An update to where I am.
I split the two hard drives to make them non-raid. Luckily the
recovery software installed OK on one of the hard disks and I was
able to build on that to reinstall the old programs and transfer the
saved documents to the new drive.
The system is running well after a few minor teething troubles.
I have formatted the other disk and will do a Norton Ghost tomorrow.
