Default Another Perspective on Win 8 - Paul Allen

One doesn't need an Xbox.
The RTM games are deployed via the MSFT store and require a free Xbox Live
account to use them. The Windows profile Microsoft account username/pw is
used to create the XBox Live account profile (similar to assigning a Live
ID/Microsoft account to an MSDN or Msft Answers profile) and Xbox Live
assigns the user a gamer tag (username).

Hi, Winston.

But I don't have an Xbox - and don't really want one. Just to play
Solitaire? I do have a Microsoft Account.

Win8 SAYS that Solitaire is free and that I've already installed - but I
can't find it in my Win8 RTM Ent Eval edition.

Oh, well. Just 22 more days...

Yes, agree. He was very (for lack of better words) politically sensitive in
his comments.

If he has Media Center (then he's got the update in advance of anyone who
using the current RTM version).
Free Cell and Solitaire (and a boatload of other games are available for
free in the MSFT store under XBox/Microsoft account
required)

Hi, Winston.

Interesting read. Even Paul is mystified and frustrated about some of
Win8's "features".

But, like me, he likes Win8 overall and is looking forward to seeing some of
its rough edges cleaned up "in the next release". SP1, anybody?

Quote from the final, "Conclusions" section:
Windows 8 does certainly require a brief adjustment period before users
become familiar and comfortable with the new bimodal
operating system.

Desktop PC users, with only minor tweaks and adjustments, should be able
to pick things up without much trouble. I am sure most
the minor issues I pointed out will be addressed in the next release of
the operating system.

Perhaps he should have used some words other than "brief" and "minor" in a
few places. :^{

And he wasn't limited to the RTM Enterprise Evaluation Edition, as I am for
now, so he could run Media Center and FreeCell!
