What audio are you playing to the separate front device?

The same. I thought that when I play a file, the same signal goes to the
rear output and the front output.
The only other option here is: Mute the rear output device, when a front
headphone plugged is. I did not tick this one as I thought the current
option (Make front and rear output devices playback different audio
streams simultaneously) was ticked by default and would allow me to play
music through the rear and front output together.
But perhaps this is a misinterpretation?

I tried this (Mute the rear output device, when a front
headphone plugged in) but it did not make a difference. When plugged

in at the front, there is signal at the rear output but not at the front.

To me the wording "make front and rear output devices play different
audio streams simultaneously" means you want to play soothing background
music on the rear jacks (speakers) while you play jazz on your front
jacks (headphones). TO ME! I'd do the opposite.
