What audio are you playing to the separate front device?

The same. I thought that when I play a file, the same signal goes to
the rear output and the front output.

probably not when you ticked a box to say play different signals ...

The only other option here is: Mute the rear output device, when a
front headphone plugged is. I did not tick this one as I thought the
current option (Make front and rear output devices playback different
audio streams simultaneously) was ticked by default and would allow me
to play music through the rear and front output together.
But perhaps this is a misinterpretation?

I'd certainly try un-ticking it

I already did. See my post. Didn't make a difference. So there must be a
miscommunication between the sound chip and the front panel.
