The default order that directories and files are in a save/load box is

I seem to have done something that alters this - the files and
directories shown to me in Save/Load boxes are in some other order
(creation/modification date maybe?) Since date isn't shown in a Save/Load
box, I can't verify that).

How do I put it back?

Open the folders in Explorer, select Detail View and change the order
for those folders. If that doesn't work, try Kelly's fix that sets the
view to Detail View. Then change to the order you prefer.

Line 85. Set Detail View for all Folders Open/Save As

And -- very important -- hold down the Ctrl key while closing the
dialog box with the red X. (Or it might be the Shift key, or Ctrl-
Shift: I can't remember and I don't have Windows XP any more. But I
remember it's one of those while closing the dialog box, to lock in
your preference.)
