Default Can't update

On 01/05/2018 01:16 PM, Fokke Nauta wrote:
Hi all,

Running W7 Pro 64b.
Already for a longer time I am unable to update Windows.
It says the update service is not running and I need to restart Windows.
I can keep restarting it until the end of the day, but it won't help.
When I look to the services, I see that the update service has started
and is running. Stopping and restarting does not make any difference.
Windows keeps saying that it isn't running.
What to do next?

Or make a move to Linux? :-)

Thanks for your help.

I wrote a tip on this a few days back. Here it is again:

Hi All,

Speaking of a house of cards, if you are getting a stupid "windows
can not update because the update service in not running" error
and the service is actually running.

1) stop the windows update service

2) delete the Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder

3) restart the service

4) reopen the Update Windows dialog. Click the update
button. If it still does not work, on the right, click on
the change setting line. Then change back to the check
updates dialog and try again. Worked four out of four
times for me.
