Don't use it for newsgroups until they (the people at Microsoft) fix
the plain text reply posting which is broken.

What's broken? It works fine here.

That's because you're using an old version (14.0.8089.726). When MS
updated that they screwed up the reply delimiter (), so when you get
multiple replies in a newsgroup posting it is impossible to tell who
posted what!

[Hi Jeff:

AFAICT, your above reply is not marked off with the character ''. This,
to all intents and purposes, breaks the thread. While WLM 2011 works
with HTML posting, I am doing this in plain text. The news server I am
using accepts only plain text posts and replies, so the news reader must
be able to handle working in plain text. AFAICT, plain text replies are
broken in WLM 2011 so far to date. 'Using the latest version I could get
my hands on: Version 2011 (Build 15.4.3502.0922).

Thanks,
LS]

I'm not sure what's going on with your WLM 15.4.3502.922. Your reply to
my mail is in pale grey as I read it in Thunderbird and didn't show at
all in this reply (I copied and pasted the above text between the [ ] so
you could see it. If you look at the posts before your reply, you will
see that they are all indented with,, and from my last post. I
always try to post (and read) in plain text.

If you look at the the reply from Dave "Crash" Dummy to my reply to the
Original Post from Lee Waun yesterday, what do you see? Are there any?

The dashes set the second part off as a signature i.e. grayed when
viewed in Thunderbird. WLM 2011 added that when I hit the reply to group
button. It did not add the '' character though (and therefore is
useless as a plain text newsreader program until they fix it).

LS

My newsreader, 40tude Dialog, also greys out the signature, thus kind of
obscuring the reply by news.aioe.org.

It seems lots of people like to add there comments after the signature
delimiter. I tend to ignore them.

I wonder - is there a setting somewhere in WLM to change the quote
delimiter character? Maybe it has the wrong default but can be altered.

Yes - in my version (Version 2009) under Options - Send - Plain Text
Settings there's a checkbox.

It's not the signature, though. It was WLM 2011 messing up the reply. It
is broken.

Now as to your question is there an option to change the dahses to
something else? Not that I can tell - you will have to contact
Microsoft, I guess. If you do, while you are at it, please ask them to
fix plain text posting in WLM 2011. Then I can use it again.

Thanks
LS

You pretty much misread my post.

I said the signature messed up someone's reply by letting it be grayed
out, since that reply was incorrectly placed after the sig, and I talked
about changing the quote character, not the sig delimiter.

The sig delimiter is a Usenet and e-mail standard...
