have you looked for the bios/firmware for the Notebook at IBM (with the correct and total IBM-Model/IBM-Type at the IBM-Support site)?

Perhaps the notebook with the problem has an other bios revision as the notebooks which don´t have problems...

Or the bios is differntly configured (because the nics are onboard...)

Have you installed the NIC drivers which are testet with the compability/Operationg System at IBM - normally IBM offers in the support area the downloads of these drivers...

In our company we also had the problem with a customer that the Switches/Hubs were different acting to the Speed/Duplex-Modus - perhaps you could have a look after the configuration auto/auto or 100/full duplex and so on - and also we had the problem that
the driver was wrong for the compability to the switch...

maybe the hints will be usefull...
