Default Windows XP keeps trying to install non-existant device

I have Windows XP and everytime I boot the PC, it attemps to
install a printer that is not defined (except as pinter) and
everytime fails

Checking the box "do not ask again" does not work and nothing shows
up on the device manager.

I've run antivirus, spyware, ad-aware, etc to no avail

Does your device manager show this device?

If you disconnect all your printers *(3 if I recall correctly)
while powered off and then power on - does it still want that
driver?

If you disconnect all external devices other than the keyboard,
mouse and monitor while powered off and then power on - does it
still want to install that driver?

Yes on both counts

Which two of the three questions did you choose to answer? ;-)

Add the fourth question:

In safe mode, if you remove all printers and external peripheral drivers and
reboot into normal mode and let it install (or install manually) the latest
drivers one-by-one - and reboot again - does the problem still appear?
