My ladyfriend has an Android. I'm not sure she even knows
her gmail address. They forced her to have one when she got
the phone. Just another Google sleazeball move that was
irrelevant to her.

Does your ladyfriend say yes to everything without even thinking about the question?
You don't have to say yes when Google asks you to create an id when you set up a new Android phone.
Many people just say no and the Android phone works just as well without the google id.
Same with location services.
Same with everything.
Just say no.

Nobody forces you to say yes.
