Isn't that too slow to be practical ?

Hi Paul,

You're generally helpful and not sarcastic so I am not sure what you're
saying, because, on the iOS newsgroup, they've been spending a week and
they still haven't solved this simple problem (their vaunted AirDrop method
keeps crapping out, for example).

USB is as fast as it gets, is it not?

Ignoring the fact that my desktop is ancient (Windows 7 vintage), do you
have a faster cross platform method that requires zero software and works
on every common consumer device?

If so, I'm all ears - but I can't imagine that you have a better solution.

If the transfer rate drops low enough, it'll be
faster to just email the photos to yourself.

That's what I mean by practical.

I could walk from coast to coast, with the boast that
"walking is free". But the time it would take to walk
from coast to coast would be a Pyrrhic victory. If someone
said, "how could you get from coast to coast for free",
then "walking" would be a bar bet solution, not a
practical one.

You could transfer files between computers, using
FSK over the audio output. As an example of a bar
bet technique. Yes, I'm doing it without cables.
Yes, just about any device could do it (even my
ZX81 which provides the inspiration for the
technique), but hell would freeze over before
I'd get my files.
