Over the past week, my computer has locked up three times--to the
point where I had to turn it off manually. I suspect the problem is
Malwarebytes. I run the free version when I want to check for malware.
However, the last time I did an update, it installed a trial version
of the full program. (I don't remember being asked to confirm that I
wanted it.) What made me think of this program being the problem is
that today I got a message from the program that I had three more days
of the trial version.

Assuming that it is Malwarebytes causing the problem, what is the best
approach for dealing with it? Should I uninstall Malwarebytes and then
try to reinstall the free version? Wait for the trial version to end?
Something else?

Thank you,

The same thing happened to me There really is no trial version
anymore ---the so-called "trial" is now just an ad for the not-free
version.

Thank you for supporting what I said. I uninstalled Malwarebytes
yesterday. So far so good. I guess I'll look for another program for
when I need to do scans.

I use MSE real time, and have the free Malwarebytes installed, but only
loaded and run once a week.
It's fully up to date and gives no system problems when used like that.

Thank you, Ed. I've read here that you can't get the free Malwarebytes any
more. (That's what I had before Malwarebytes updated with the trial
version that I didn't want.) However, on its webpage
https://www.malwarebytes.com/pricing/ it looks like you can still get the
free version. I'll try going back to that one soon.
