I haven't heard the problem return so maybe those
55 malwarebyte threat files were the culprit?

I created a new Bitdefender CD

and then ran the scan which came up clean

afterwards I ran another malwarebytes scan
which also came up clean

I then restarted the 8500 to check the F8 function
and still does not work and goes directly to the MBR
