I can not provide a tecnical answer to your question, but when I
received that message, it was usually near the end of the life of the disk.

With one computer I was able to do a system restore to the original
installation, but that worked only a few times before the end

I suspect it occurs because the boot sector has become corrupt, OR if
you are luck the CPU battery is dying.

I tried running CHKDSK.

Whar battery is that?
