I bought a laptop with the HDD removed. I am putting in a 120gb ssd in a
plastic hd sized adapter. If I then install the correct Win7 edition (eg
Home Premium 64bit) off any old download or DVD will I then be able to
validate it with the product key off the back of the laptop, or has MS
made this more complicated?

Yes provided install dvd is same "version" of Windows, e.g. Home, Pro
etc.

I do it all the time and I have no idea what disk goes with what key
anymore when same versions

Thanks, yes it was okay. I had to ring the automated MS license line and
spend a few minutes keying in numbers but it was all accepted, validated
and verified in 10 mins.
