Default XP very slow

Hi

Thanks for the idea, have adjusted the virtual memory as you suggest &
rebooted. It might be a bit of wishful thinking but it might be a bit
faster, but a lot slower than Office 2000 running on Win 98!

The operating system drive is filling up, & you might see another query
about imaging partitions over to a bigger hard disc & getting the multiboot
to work!

Thanks

Richard

I would pay special attention at the size of the XP partition and the
available free space.

Take a look at the virtual memory settings. If you have predetermined
values
setup, make a note of them and select the "System Managed Size" option,
then
click the SET button and the OK. If you don't click SET your changes will
not
take place.
Reboot the computer for the changes to take effect.

Let us know.

I suggets you view windows.public.windowsupdate and search for SVCHOST
problems. Grab some food, a pillow and a bed ... you'll be there a
while.
This has many aberations and same number of solutions.

Hi

Am running XP with SP2 & fully updated.
Have AVG (fully updated) & scanned all drives - clear
Have Windows Defender fully updated & scanned all drives - Clear
Have run Spybot & Adaware & cleaned out anything suspicious.

I use MS Office 2003 - all programs load soo slowly (Win 98 & office
2000
immediate on dual boot)

XP hangs & shows svchost (yes it is spelt correctly!) using all
resources
for a long time - I think this is Windows update. If I disable updates
then
things are as normal (slow) but work.

Should Windows Update virtually stall a computer in its tracks?

Richard
