I previously placed a filter over the intake to minimize the dust buildup on the motherboard etc.

But I removed it thinking it impeded air flow.

Using a filter is something you have to check
frequently, to keep it from clogging up.

You must have some sort of idea as to how the
air flows through your PC. And which fan(s) you're
relying on.
