I'm in a smaller town (about 14K population) and do have broadband now
(cable). I do remember the years when it was available only in the more
seriously overpopulated areas. I got tired of hearing people saying
"just get broadband".

BTW, the first broadband available here was Starband satellite (around
2001). It was only a little better than POTS, and became much worse and
then useless. I went back to the 48k dialup and that was a big improvement.

LTE is available here now, and possibly DSL from Frontier.
