You aren't asking for much, are you?

Things that need to be a single click away go on the taskbar.

Things that can be accessed simply by slamming the pointer to the
lower right and clicking, to expose the desktop, go on the desktop.

Stop avoiding the obvious. If your desktop is a "huge mess" you need
to clean it up. Nothing else will work for you if you cannot do that.
