thousand authors together to write up possible scenarios for the reason
the OP wants this and you get up to a thousand different stories.

Eh, that's true, too. I didn't find online help (the user manual) for
SimpleOCR. It if scans and then has you do the OCR then you could scan
and just keep the raw input. Wonder why he doesn't use the software
that came with the device. Guess it doesn't have a CLI.

For scanning only (and again assuming the OP has an optical scanner he
wants to use with hardcopy documents as opposed to software that scans
through document files), there's VueScan (http://www.hamrick.com/);
however, I don't know if it has a CLI.

The OP could use AutoIt or AutoHotkey to script macros to manipulate the
GUI programs.

The other assumption I made is the OP wants freeware. The OP never
mandated freeware-only suggestions or if he'd be willing to pay for the
program. I didn't bother hunting down payware solutions.
