the computer. Directories, program listings with locations, etc. etc.

Now I'm in the midst of trying to learn both Win 7 (my new computer)
and Win 8 (my wife's new computer) and the lack of access to stuff

So to annoy you more I guess, two questions:
1) Is there anything like the "MyComputer" listing in XP et al ?
2) In trying to get rid of the password login nonsense, I was told
diretions: DesktopComputer(right click)manage

I get that, but I find no "Computer" choice on the desktop.
( and if I have somehow lost it, how do I recover it?)
