My Dell Inspiron 1545 with Win 7 has an audio problem: the slightest
bump often causes the audio to mute completely and the only way I can
get audio back is to reboot. This has been a recurring problem for
quite some time. There are no driver or other warnings when this
occurs, in fact nothing happens except no audio. Any ideas would be
welcome. Watching videos can only be done if I don't make any sudden
movements and/or bump the laptop at all.

Thank you,

If it were mine, I would take it apart and re-seat every wire, part,
cpu, plug, ram, battery, etc. that can be reseated.

I HATE trying to take laptops apart and I've been at playing with pc
hardware since 1984. Only if desparate do I try, just too easy to screw
something up past my ability to fix it. I'm a very ugly man with a
soldering gun LOL.

Learning to properly de-solder components on modern PCBs is the REAL challenge.
You have not known hell until you try and dismantle an iPhone 5, repair a cold
solder connection, reassemble the *******, have it actually work and do so
without leaving it marred.

I'm shocked. An Apple product with a cold solder joint ?
What is this world coming to ?
