Default Can't install .NET Framework

Have tried numerous times to install .NET Framework, both versions 1.1
and
2.0 and always get one or more errors. Even tried turning off anti-virus

and
firewall - no help. Running WinXP Pro SP3. Any ideas?

For no known reasons, MS decided not to make NET modules cumulative.
This means (if you need this download aid) you must instal every single
module in sequence. My / Software / Installed list shows three separate
Service Packs (for NET 2.0, NET 3.0, NET 3.5) with 6 to 10 modules
each. Your fastest method may be to uninstal all, then start at the
bottom
and download all in sequence (if you need this download aid.)

Somewhere along the way I thought I remembered reading that the versions
weren't cumulative, but wasn't sure. Typically MS. Just curious - I need
version 1.1. Is there a version 1? Thanks for the reply.
