Actually no - we are not "in on it".
If you look at the root cause of the original poster problem - you will see
that is it pretty much of there own making, by using their own e-mail
address in newsgroups.


I don't think that is an appropriate way of looking at the problem. The
root cause of the OP's problem is that there are idiots out there writing
viruses and releasing them into the wild. The secondary cause is that there
are people who will gladly click on any attachment they receive, without
thinking "would Microsoft _really_ want to send service packs through
email?"

At the end of the day if all the advice given is ignored then people
unfortunately become victims of those who would do them "harm".

At the end of the day, if we all stop revealing our addresses in public,
then the spammers and the virus writers have achieved their objective of
destroying the functionality of the Internet.
