Default Permissions Problem!

wrote:

May be OT and if so I am sorry.

I have a c drive disk from a failed Vista machine containing
Quickbooks 2008. Its data files are .qbw files under Documents and
Settings folder.

I installed QB 2008 on my XP SP3 machine and want to access the qbw
files. I want to copy those files to my xp drive.

I mounted the Vista drive as a slave in my machine, and proceeded to
try to do a copy of said qbw files from the Vista drive to my machine.
It wouldn't let me access the Documents and Settings folder. It says
I don't have permissions.

How can I overcome this calamity? I have tried everything I can think
of.

Make yourself the owner of those old files that were secured by a
different account on the old computer. Just because you may use the
same username on another computer doesn't mean you get the same
permissions. The SAM database tracks each account separately and keeps
it unique, even across different hosts.

The only account that remains the same (it has the same security ID)
across all Windows installations is the Administrator account. So login
under Administrator and take ownership of those migrated files.
