Default Windows Update problem

Looked again. With fine-toothed comb. That KB isn't present./Bill/

I thought the same thing, Frank. But I couldn't find it there. Maybe
I'll look again.

Next thing I would do is uninstall it in add/remove and then let it
install fresh.

Okay, Frank, I tried. Carefully. No, I had no other windows open, or
minimized. This time it offered me five updates, and I accepted all
five. It downloaded all five, and successfully installed four. The
KB2416417 Silverlight update failed, as it did before. I followed all
the links, where it said click on the Red-X for explanation. The link
did nothing. It led nowhere. I tried dbl-click, I tried right-click
and Open...it led nowhere.

And now........?

Don't know if I did, Frank, but I'll be happy to try it again and
let you know.

Did you close all other Windows so there was no conflict?

Automatic Updates tells me there is an update for Silverlight,
and I allow it to download and install. Its progress bar
progresses and finishes, and the message above it changes, and
indicates that that "update could not be installed." The balloon
continues to tell me that updates are ready to install. I've
rebooted, done CHKDSK......what next?
I'm reposting this....still hoping for a solution to the problem.
I don't like the steady warning that updates are waiting ro be
installed.
